LOS ANGELES, CA, October 24, 2023. RiskPointGlobal.com announced today that J.P. Schmidt, former Insurance Commissioner for the state of Hawaii, has joined its Non-Management Advisory Board. Mr. Schmidt has extensive experience in state and federal insurance regulation and law, due to over forty years of legal and consulting experience. From 2003 to 2010, he was the Insurance Commissioner for the State of Hawaii, Insurance Division, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, where he managed a staff of 76 people, regulating over 1000 insurance companies, and over 40,000 licensed insurance agents, brokers and producers. Mr. Schmidt also represented U.S. Insurance Regulators in negotiations with regulators from Japan and China. From 1999 to 2003, he was a partner in the law firm of Crockett Nakamura & Schmidt, specializing in General Civil, Corporate and Administrative Law. From 2013 to 2016, he was President and CEO of Family Health Hawaii, a not-for-profit mutual benefit society providing health insurance to small businesses in the state of Hawaii. From 2018 to 2020, he was Senior Policy Advisor to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, State of Hawaii. He is currently a principal in Abaris Global, advising companies on Health Insurance regulation, compliance, and Blockchain and Cryptocurrency regulation, including Ethereum Foundation on corporate governance and regulatory affairs. He is a frequent lecturer on a wide range of subjects and is the author of numerous published articles. He is an attorney admitted to the Hawaii State Bar and the California State Bar.
